#1milliontomiss: Let's post art to help save Earth's 1 million threatened species.
SEP 6 - 12, 2020
The Global Art Challenge
There is a need to raise awareness of the fact that 1 million species "are now threatened with extinction, many within decades, more than ever before in human history."
(2019, Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services)
In the tradition of #Inktober or #Mermay, the #1milliontomiss social media challenge invites all artists worldwide to post their artwork featuring threatened plant species, animal species, and/or endangered habitats.
Our art will help to create momentum for organizations and people working to save life on Earth.
Post Your Art
Post every day during the challenge, or post when you can. Every image helps! Visit the toolkit for guidelines and tips on what to include in your posts.
Species Guides for Reference
For animals:
This list from the World Wildlife Fund offers high quality photos of some of the most endangered animal species. This may be a helpful place to start.
For plants:
A Google search will go a long way.
For habitats:
Tropical rainforests, polar ice caps, and coral reefs may be a helpful place to start.
Publicity
The United Nations, World Wildlife Fund, IPBES, and other major social good organizations are aware of this challenge and excited to see your work. There is potential for these organizations to help grow the reach of your art and amplify our collective concern for threatened species.
Tell a Friend
Do you know other artists who might also like to participate? Feel free to use language and graphics from our toolkit to invite them.
